GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Courthouse Galleries is more than just an art museum. It’s a relaxing gathering place where you can learn the art of growing Bonsai trees one week and see a demonstration of glass blowing the next. Every First Friday, the Courthouse Galleries typically offers free musical entertainment. On the First Sunday of each month, educational programs – such as gallery talks and seminars that complement the exhibits –are open to the public, also free of charge. Art classes, lectures, poetry readings and book signings round out the vast array of offerings at the museum. Works from international and regional artists are featured in the historic 1846 courthouse.
PARKING: 1 wheelchair accessible parking space at the entrance to the courtyard. Ramps well marked and cannot be blocked by another vehicle.
TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION: Paved brick walks and courtyard - asphalt parking lot. Paths accessible to persons with mobility disabilities. Length of paths 50 ft.± to entrance.
ENTRANCE: Located on Court Street side of 1846 Courthouse. Ramp provided. 2 glass entry doors, 36 in. wide, easily open out with clearly marked knob and grip handles located 37 in. above floor. Steps inside lobby, located 12 ft. from door. Steps are marked with tactile strip/color change. Handrails.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Wheelchair accessible toilet located near the elevator. Doors 32 in. wide, open out. Turns to enter. Accessible stalls have doors opening out, and handrails. 19 in. toilet seat height, 12 in. between commode and wall. Sink height 29 in. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.
ELEVATOR: Wheelchair accessible elevator with sound indicator in lobby serves all levels. Buttons raised. Interior of car is 82 in. by 59 in.
SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities, signs are printed with sharp contrast to background color, and on non glossy surface. There is increased wattage lighting in meeting areas.
GIFT SHOP: Counters 40 in. high. Aisles clear of temporary displays.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: No credit cards accepted. Admission fee.
