I-64 West, Exit 258A, 2 miles on the left, cross Jefferson Avenue and get into left lane, located across from Fire Station.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  View endangered red wolves. Get up close to a loggerhead turtle and moon jellies. See fish with no eyes and frogs that change colors. Touch live spider crabs and fossilized dinosaur tracks. Living exhibits depict Virginia’s natural heritage from the mountains to the sea. Experience a steamy cypress swamp and cool mountain cove. Explore the underwater world of the Chesapeake Bay and the underground realm of a limestone cave. Touch Bay creatures, plus enjoy hands-on activities.

See spectacular views of the sun from the observatory and travel the universe in the state-of-the-art digital planetarium. Outdoors, stroll the boardwalk to view coastal birds, beavers, otters, coyotes, red wolves and other animals in naturalized habitats. See one of the most extensive displays of native plants in Virginia. Learn how to build, live and garden green.

PARKING:  6 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION:  The paths are flat and wide with no steep grades.

ENTRANCE:  In front of building.  Ramps provided.  Glass entry doors, 34 in. wide, easily open out with clearly marked bar handle located 35 in. above floor.

FACILITIES:  There is increased wattage lighting in meeting areas.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  In lobby.  Doors are 35 in. wide, open in.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 30 in. wide doors opening out, handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, 11 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height is 32 in.  Accessible stall checked  for obstructions.

ELEVATOR:  Wheelchair accessible elevator.

GIFT SHOP:  Very small shop.  Aisles 24 in. wide.  Main counters 40 in. high, others lower.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Accepted credit cards: V, MC and DS.  Hours:  9-5 Mon-Sat, 12-5 Sun.  Closed Christmas and New Year’s Day.  Admission fee for museum and planetarium.  Group and Senior citizen rates.  Wheelchair is available.
