I-64 Exit 258A.  2.5 miles to intersection of J. Clyde Morris and Warwick Boulevards.  Museum entrance is straight ahead.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Designated as "America's National Maritime Museum," The Mariners’ Museum illustrates the spirit of seafaring adventure through a diverse collection of rare figureheads, handcrafted ship models, paintings, and more. Visit the award winning USS Monitor Center, where visitors can be part of the action in the high-definition battle theater, walk a full-scale Monitor replica, view interactive exhibits, and see notable artifacts, like the gun turret, as they undergo conservation.

PARKING:  7 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.  Accessible parking space with 96 inch accessible aisle.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Concrete and brick with no steep grades.

ENTRANCE:  Front of building.  Automatic entry doors. 

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Off main lobby, near vending area and Huntington Room.  Doors are 36 in. wide and open in.  Turns  to enter.  Accessible stalls have 33 in. doors opening out, and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, and 11 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 33 in.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing disabilities, there are amplified audio units available during activities in meeting room; not available in galleries.

For guests with visual disabilities,there are hands-on exhibits such as      computers and audio units.  Documents in large print on non-glossy surface.  There is increased wattage lighting in dining and meeting areas.

For guests with mobility disabilities, there are lowered drinking fountains.  

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:  In vending area.  6 tables can accommodate customers in wheelchairs.  Table height 30 in. 

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 32 in. wide.  Counters 36 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Accepted credit cards:  V, MC and AE.   Admission fee.  Discounts for seniors and groups.  Open Wednesday – Saturday: 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Sunday: Noon to 5 P.M. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Museum will be open on Mondays that coincide with federal holidays. Library and Archives are open 10-5 Mon-Sat, closed on holidays.
