GENERAL DESCRIPTION: On the Potomac River’s Northern Neck, this park offers many opportunities for family fun – an Olympic-sized swimming pool and adjacent bathhouse, meeting area, snack bar, camp store, launching ramp for power boats, visitor center, campgrounds, camping cabins, cabins, fishing pier, boat rentals and six miles of trails. Fossil collectors enjoy hunting for shark teeth on the Potomac, and birding enthusiasts find the park an excellent site for spotting American bald eagles, ospreys, kingfishers, great blue herons, common terns, green herons and gulls, as well as wintering waterfowl.

PARKING:  Wheelchair accessible parking spaces located 1 at overlook (gravel), 4 at main use parking area  (gravel, flat area), 2 at camp store/restaurant (hardened walkway and ramped), 1 at van (ramp to V.C.) and 2 at office (paved and ramped entrance.  Nearby ramps are well marked.  RV parking accessible to campground.

TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND PARK/ATTRACTION:  Asphalt, gravel, concrete.  Trails 800 ft. to pool and fish pier (flat).

ENTRANCE TO VISITOR CENTER:  3 exterior steps, each 6 in. high.  Ramps provided.  Glass entry door, 36 in. wide, easily opens in with clearly marked push handle. 

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Located at the pool and day use complex area.  Available without steps.  Doors are 32 in. wide, open in.  Turns to enter.  Stall door opens out  19  in. toilet seat height.  8 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 27 in.  Wrapped pipes.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Rest rooms identified by raised figures with pants or skirt on the door to designate men or women.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities:   Signs in large print and printed on a non-glossy surface. 

For guests with mobility disabilities: the half-mile, multi-purpose Rock Springs Pond Trail is paved. It ends at the pond where there's a ramp to the top of the spillway.

Playground has level grass access to playground.

POOL: Level concrete walkway from parking lot to pool, bathhouse restrooms and showers.. Lift available at pool.

CABINS: Cabin 25 and the Potomac River Retreat are accessible. All cabins have grills and picnic tables, and Cabin 25 has deck.

Potomac River Retreat is onthe Potomac River and accommodates up to 16 people. It is similar to a timeshare or resort. There are five bathrooms and one is accessible for persons with disabilities. The accessible bedroom has one double bed. Call 1-800-933-7275 for reservations.

PICNIC AREAS:  Located along Potomac River.  Tables located 15 ft. from parking area.  Paths to and within the picnic areas are grass.  2 small covered shelters.  Picnic table at each campsite.

Shelter 1: This shelter is near the pool. The shelter is atop a hill and has a grill and picnic tables. It also is near a restroom and has a an accessible ramp.

Although motorized vehicles are not permitted on park trails, electric wheelchairs and electric scooters that meet the federal definition for wheelchairs are allowed to enable people with disabilities to use the trails.
