Exit 267 off I-64.  Located in downtown Hampton.   

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Official visitor center for NASA Langley Research Center.  Includes spacecraft, 12 full-sized aircraft, Apollo 12 Command Module, over 100 hands-on exhibits and a five-story IMAX Theater presenting a variety of movies.

Take flight to the Virginia Air & Space Center in Hampton, the birthplace of America's space program and the official visitor center for NASA Langley Research Center. Your imagination will soar as you launch a rocket, pilot a shuttle and try on wings to feel the lift that makes things fly.

PARKING:  2 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Paved sidewalk.  Interior walkways are dense indoor/outdoor carpet.  Ramp leading from lobby to first floor has a gradual slope.  Assistance may be required for guests in manual wheelchairs.  Paths are varied in length

ENTRANCE:  Carpeted ramp to enter first floor and ticket counter.  8 exterior steps, each 4 in. in height.  Handrails on left and right.  Ramps are provided.  Glass entry doors, 36 in. wide, easily open out with clearly marked metal handle located 42 in. above floor.   Interior steps from gift shop to ticket counter.  Each step is 4 in. high and carpeted. 

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  1st level, near public phones.  Doors are 34 in. wide, and open in.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 33 in. wide doors opening out and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, and 11-13 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height is 34 in.  Pipes are wrapped.  Accessible stall checked for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.

ELEVATOR:  Wheelchair accessible elevator.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing impairments, there are signing interpreters available with advance notice.  Rear window closed captioning for selected films showing in the IMAX theater.

For guests with visual impairments, there are hands-on exhibits such as rotating displays.   

For guests with mobility impairments, there are lowered drinking fountains.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:  14 tables for customers in wheelchairs are located throughout.  Table height 29 in. 

GIFT SHOP:  Counters 40 in. high.  Clerks assist with special needs. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Accepted credit cards MC and V. Exhibit admission: Adults $6.50, seniors $5.50, and children ages 3-11 $4.50.  Hours: 10-5  in winter.  After Memorial Day, 10-5 Mon-Wed, 10-7 Th-Sun.  Please call for IMAX Theater show times.
