GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 1799 mansion and museum. Federal period architecture. Home of the Eastern Shore Historical Society. This home is the finest example of Federal architecture on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Only two families lived in this mansion from when the Kers moved in in 1801 until it was purchased by the ESVHS in 1960.
PARKING: 1 wheelchair accessible parking space.
TYPES OF PATHS: Brick and small gravel paths. Paths are 100-200 ft. long with no steep grades.
ENTRANCE: Front of building. 6 exterior steps, each 7 in. in height. Handrails left and right. Entry doors, 45 in. wide, easily open out with round knob handle located 36 in. above floor. 6 in. step in lobby, right of front door. Handrails. A ramped entrance at the rear of the building provides access to the first floor.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Available, but not wheelchair accessible.
