From I-64 East or West:  Exit 242A (Rte. 199 West) for 5 miles to Jamestown Road.  (Rte. 31 North), right on Jamestown Road for 1 1/4 miles, museum on left beside Phi Beta Kappa Hall.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  The Muscarelle Museum of Art is located on the campus of The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. The origins of the collection can be traced to 1732, when the third Earl of Burlington gave The College of William & Mary a portrait of the physicist Robert Boyle. Since that time, the collection has grown to over 4000 works of art encompassing a diverse group of objects from antiquity to the present, Eastern and Western art, and examples of almost every material and medium.

Of particular note are Colonial American and 17th and 18th century English portraits, a survey collection of original prints and drawings from the 16th through the 20th centuries, a selection of Japanese prints, a collection of German Expressionist works by Hans Grohs, and the Jean Outland Chrysler collection of American Abstract Expressionism.

PARKING:  2 designated accessible parking spaces, located in parking lot in front of museum.  Accessible parking space 12 ft. wide.  Accessible aisle 9 ft. wide.  Nearby ramps well marked.

TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION:  Brick.  Paths  accessible to persons with mobility disabilities.  Length of paths- 50 ft.

ENTRANCE:  In front.  Entry doors, 36 in. wide, easily open out with bar handle located 36 in. above floor.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  On first floor.  Available without steps.  Doors 35 in. wide, open in.  No turns to enter.  Wheelchair accessible stalls:  38 in. wide doors opening in and out with handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, 34 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 34 in.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Unisex or companion assisted rest rooms available.

ELEVATOR:   Serves all levels.  Door width 64 in.  Control buttons 42 in. high.  Elevator car interior is 50 in. by 120 in.  Buttons raised.  Door stays open 8 seconds.

PUBLIC TELEPHONE:  Accessible phones at information desk.  Numbers raised.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing disabilities, there are signing interpreters available with advance notice.  Written scripts available.

For guests with visual disabilities, signage is printed with contrasting colors, large print and on a non-glossy surface.

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 60 in. wide.  Counters 30 in. high.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.

STAFF TRAINING:  Personnel trained to serve guests using wheelchairs, guests with mobility, visual, or hearing disabilities.  Training  is provided by the college of William and Mary.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Accepted credit cards: V and MC. Hours:  Mon-Fri 10 AM - 4:45 PM, Sat-Sun Noon - 4 PM.  Admission is free.
