GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Reedville Fishermen’s Museum is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of the fishermen and watermen of Virginia's Northern Neck and Chesapeake Bay by acquiring, documenting, and displaying historically important artifacts in its galleries and exhibits.
A world-class collection of traditional Chesapeake Bay watercraft, featuring 2 on the National Register of Historic Places: The Claud Somers, a 42'skipjack; and The Elva C., a 55' deck boat; are dockside. A number of educational programs, events, tours and lectures are offered throughout the year for groups of all ages.
The story of Reedville is linked to the commercial fishing industry, so come stroll the historic district, take a cruise on our skipjack and enjoy our interpretation of the area's maritime heritage.
PARKING: 1 wheelchair accessible parking space.
TYPES OF PATHS: Concrete and wood. Paths are 10 ft. long.
ENTRANCE: Located 12 ft. from parking. Entry door, 35 in. wide, opens out easily with lever handle located 35 in. above floor.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Off lobby. 35 in. wide doors open in. No turns to enter. Accessible stalls have 35 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails. 19 in. toilet seat height, 12 in. between commode and wall. Sink height is 33 in. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.
SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with mobility disabilities, there is a lowered drinking fountain.
GIFT SHOP: Aisles 40 in. wide. Counter 39 in. high. Clerks assist customers with special needs. Aisles clear of temporary displays.
