GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Here you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Mount Rogers and Whitetop Mountain, Virginia's two highest mountains. Facilities include a visitor center, campgrounds and hiking trails leading to waterfalls and overlooks. Scenic horse trails and a horse camping area with stables and parking for trailers are available. The park provides access to the Appalachian Trail and the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail.

PARKING:  19 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Gravel, natural surfaces and concrete with no steep grades.  Trails 200 ft. long. 

ENTRANCE TO VISITOR CENTER:  Directly in front of visitor center.  Ramps provided.  Entry doors, 36 in. wide, easily open out with stainless pull handle located 34 in. above floor.   

The center has exhibits on pioneer life and plant and animal life of the area.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  In visitor center.  Doors are 36 in. wide, and open in.  No turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 32 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, and 15 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 31 in.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing disabilities, there are amplified audio units. 

For guests with mobility disabilities,there is an accessible campsite, next to one of the campground restrooms, with accessible table and pedestal type grill.

For guests with visual disabilities, there are documents in large print on non-glossy surface.

PICNIC AREAS:  Next to Homestead area, with 2 tables, 29 in. high, for guests in wheelchairs.  Aisles between the tables are 56 in.  Paths to and within picnic areas are concrete.  Covered shelters.

The picnic area is next to a rebuilt homestead site, complete with two log cabins, a spring-house and a cane mill. Picnic facilities include drinking water, grills and restrooms.

CAMPING: All campsites are dirt/gravel with picnic tables and grills at each site. One site is universally accessible near bathhouse. Call 1-800-933-7275 for reservations.

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 56 in. wide, counters are 30 in. to 6 ft. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.The visitor center houses the Mountain Crafts Shop, which features crafts made by local artisans.

Although motorized vehicles are not permitted on park trails, electric wheelchairs and electric scooters that meet the federal definition for wheelchairs are allowed to enable people with disabilities to use the trails.
