DIRECTIONS: I-81, I-581 to downtown. Take Exit 6 (Elm St.), turn in front of Community Hospital.  At traffic light (there is a big stone church) turn right onto Jefferson.  2-3 blocks, at traffic light, right onto Campbell Avenue.  Located in Center In The Square building, first block on right.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  The Science Museum is a fun place for adults and children to explore the wonders of science through hands-on experiences!

Permanent galleries enable visitors to learn about weather, the physics of light and sound, geology, and the human body. Special features are the Living River, with a hands-on touch tank of ocean animals such as horseshoe crabs and sea stars, and the Earth's Treasures gallery with stunning mineral displays. Explore the reaches of the universe with star shows in Hopkins Planetarium and then come back down to earth to experience giant screen films in the MegaDome Theater, an exciting new way to learn about the world around you.

The Butterfly Garden offers the opportunity to interact with live butterflies from around the world in an enclosed setting of lush plants and a water feature.

PARKING: 5 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Hard surface walkways covered with carpet.  No steep grades.

ENTRANCE:  Campbell Avenue or Market Square, then via elevator.  Automatic doors are always open during business hours. Interior steps located in Planetarium, with ramp.  Each step is marked with tactile strip/color change.  Handrails.  

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  On 4th & 5th floors. Doors are 36 in. wide.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 34 in. wide doors opening in, handrails.  14-16 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height is 31 in.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.  Unisex and/or companion assisted rest room available at the public rest room.

ELEVATOR:  Wheelchair accessible elevator with sound indicator.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities, hands-on exhibits such as Pinscreen, Sonic Range (feel vibrations), Talking Computer and  Shaping Sound are available.  Documents available in large print on non-glossy surface. 

For guests with children, there is a fun fossil dig and other activities designed for kids five and younger. 

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 36 in. wide.  Counters 34 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays. The Science Museum Launch Pad Gift Shop is located on the first floor, full of fun, educational toys, games, and gifts.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Non-smoking facility.  Accepted credit cards:  V, MC, AE and DS.  Admission fee.  Hours:  Mon-Sat.10-5, Sun 1-5. Closed Mon. from Labor Day until Memorial Day. Closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
