DIRECTIONS: I-95 South/I-64 East to exit 75, follow signs to Canal Walk on 5th and Tredegar Streets.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Richmond's Canal Walk meanders 1.25 miles through downtown Richmond along the banks of the Haxall Canal and the James River & Kanawha Canal. Open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, the Canal Walk (Brown's Island itself is open sunrise to sunset except in the case of a special event) may be accessed on 5th, 7th, Virginia, 14th, 15th, and 17th Streets. The Canal Walk presents four centuries of Richmond’s history interpreted through medallions, monuments and exhibits along the Canal Walk and Brown’s Island. PARKING:  4 designated accessible parking spaces, located 5th and Tredegar Streets.  Accessible parking space 12 ft  wide.  Nearby ramps well marked.  RV parking.

TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION:  Gravel and concrete.  Paths accessible to persons with mobility disabilities.  Steep grades may require assistance for persons in wheelchairs.  Length of paths 1 1/4 miles.

ENTRANCE:  Located 5th and Tredegar Streets.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  At Brown’s Island and Civil War Visitor Center.  Available without steps.  Doors 36 in. wide, open in.  No turns to enter.  Wheelchair accessible stalls have 34 in. wide doors opening in, and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, 12 in. between commode and wall.  Wrapped pipes.  Rest rooms identified by raised figures with pants or skirt on the door to designate men or women.

PUBLIC TELEPHONE:  Accessible phones located in Tredegar Iron Works parking lot.  Lowered phones.  Numbers in braille, recessed and raised.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities:  Signs in large print, with contrasting background.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:  On 5th and Tredegar Streets.  Facilities most accessible to wheelchairs are located in carts on Canal Walk.
