DIRECTIONS: I-95, Exit 74C and follow signs.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Come face to face with history at The Museum of the Confederacy, the leading center for the study of the Confederacy in the American Civil War! A private non-profit educational & preservation organization, the Museum is home to the world’s largest collection of artifacts, manuscripts & images associated with the domestic, military & political life during the period of the Confederacy. Exhibits feature the personal effects of Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and other Confederate figures of the Civil War.

PARKING:  Free parking at hospital visitors’ deck across street.   

TYPES OF PATHS:  Brick sidewalk and courtyard.  Museum interior is  commercial carpet and brick tile.  Interior features several stairways.

ENTRANCE:  Clay Street.  6 exterior steps, each 6 in. in height.  Handrails on rt.  Ramps provided.  Entry doors, 36 in. wide, easily open out with “D” handle located 36 in. above floor.  MUSEUM: Three levels of galleries in the Museum are self guided and accessible by elevator. WHITE HOUSE OF THE CONFEDERACY: Not wheelchair accessible.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Located off lobby.  Doors are 31 in. wide, open in.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 31 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, and 13 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height is 33 in.  Accessible stall checked for obstructions. 

ELEVATOR:  Wheelchair accessible elevator.

PUBLIC TELEPHONE:  There are wheelchair accessible phones and amplified phones.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with mobility disabilities, a slide presentation showing the White House may be arranged with prior notice.

For guests with hearing disabilities, written scripts are available with prior notice.

For guests with visual disabilities, tactile samples are available with prior notice.  Documents in large print on non-glossy surfaces.

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 32 in. wide.  Counters 40 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Accepted credit cards V, AE and MC.  Hours 10-5 Mon-Sat, noon-5 Sun. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving, Dec. 25; early closing Dec. 24.  Admission fee.   Senior citizen and active-duty military discounts are available. Children 6 years old and younger are free.
