DIRECTIONS: Exit 121 off I-64, south on Rte 20, left on Rte 53.  Tavern on right 1 mile .

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  One of the oldest homesteads remaining in Virginia.  Consists of Tavern, Museum, Outbuildings and General Store.  Only Tavern and General Store are wheelchair accessible. 

PARKING:  3 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Paved and gravel with steep grades requiring assistance for persons in wheelchairs.  Paths are long.    

ENTRANCE:  Located up long ramp to side/back of tavern.  14 exterior steps, each 4-6 in. in height and marked with tactile strip/color change.  Handrails on rt.  Ramps are provided.  Portable ramp at General Store.  Entry doors, 34 in. wide, easily open out with vertical U handle located 37 in. above floor. 

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Located in Tavern and at General Store.    Doors are 35 in. wide, open in.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 35 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, and 12 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height is 36 in.  Pipes wrapped.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.

SPECIAL SERVICES:  In Museum and Tavern

For guests with hearing disabilities, there are amplified audio units, tours in American Sign Language, signing interpreters available with advance notice, and written scripts available. 

For guests with visual disabilities, there are audio cassettes, documents in large print on non-glossy surface, and hands-on exhibits such as living history programs in Museum.     

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:  Located in Tavern.  Table height 29 in.  Aisles between tables are flexible. 

GIFT SHOP:  In General Store, is not wheelchair accessible.  Aisles 28-34 in. wide.  Counters 34 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Credit cards:  MC, V and AE.  Admission fee.  Closed Christmas and New Year’s Day.  Gift Shop and General Store open 9-5 daily.  Tours  from 9-4:20 daily.  Dining 11:30 and 3 daily.
